Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS – Despite just missing the playoffs this season, the Memphis RiverKings of the Central Hockey League received championship-caliber fan support from the people of the Mid-South, with an almost 15% increase in attendance this year. That type of support deserves the sport's top prize, and the RiverKings are pleased to announce that the team, in conjunction with Hunter Brown's Restaurant and Sports Café and Time Warner Cable, will play host to the most spectacular sports trophy of all time, the Stanley Cup, on Saturday, March 27th.

Given to the winner of the National Hockey League playoffs, Lord Stanley's Cup has developed a huge following among sports fans of all persuasions. Bearing the names of the players and teams that have hoisted it over the course of time, the Cup has developed an iconic cultural status, becoming synonymous with reaching the pinnacle of competitive sports.

"Lord Stanley's Cup is a remarkable trophy," said RiverKings play-by-play broadcaster Galen Clavio. "No other trophy carries anywhere near the amount of history, or represents the level of physical and mental sacrifice required to attain it."

Gary Saunders, Vice-President of Business Operations for the RiverKings, feels the team's hosting of the Stanley Cup in the Mid-South will be a nice way to thank the fans that showed so much support to the team this season.

"Obviously we would have loved to bring the CHL President's Cup back to the Mid-South this year, but unfortunately we fell a bit short," said Saunders. "We hope that the fans will take time to pay homage to the Stanley Cup, because it's such an extremely rare opportunity."

The Stanley Cup will make its only public appearance in the Mid-South at Hunter Brown's Restaurant and Sports Café in Southaven on the afternoon and evening of Saturday, March 27th. RiverKings corporate sponsors and full-season ticket holders will have the opportunity to attend a special reception at Hunter Brown's from 4-5 PM. The RiverKings will have a professional photographer on hand to take pictures with the Stanley Cup. Pictures will be free for sponsors and season ticket holders who have renewed for the 2004-05 season tickets, and those who have not yet renewed for next season will have the opportunity to do so at the event. All others can get their pictures taken for a cost of only $10 per photo, with all profits going to benefit the Jr. RiverKings Youth Hockey Program.

Then, from 5-7 PM at Hunter Brown's, there will be a public reception where all sports fans can view the Stanley Cup. A photographer will again be on hand to take pictures with the Cup, with the same $10 per photo fee going to the Jr. RiverKings. Selected RiverKings players and coaches will be present at both events.

"It should be a great chance for all RiverKings fans to gather together one more time before the long off-season," said Saunders.

The RiverKings will take to the ice once again in late October for the 2004-05 season, as the team looks to earn a playoff berth for the fourth time in the last five years.
