Riverhounds Travel to the West Coast for Two Games
May 2, 2013 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
Pittsburgh - The Pittsburgh Riverhounds remain on the road this weekend for a set of games on the west coast. The Riverhounds will meet the 2013 USL PRO expansion team, the Phoenix FC Wolves on Friday night at Sun Devil Stadium, followed by an afternoon match against the Los Angeles Blues on Sunday at Titan Stadium. Both games will be streamed live on USLnation.com.
Entering the month of May, the Riverhounds are still looking for their first win of the 2013 USL PRO season. The Riverhounds have not earned a point since their 0-0 draw against the Richmond Kickers in the season opener. Despite showing signs of brilliance throughout the run of play, the Riverhounds have dropped four straight games. Following this weekend's set of games, the Riverhounds will return to Highmark Stadium for a six-game home stand.
The Wolves return to Sun Devil Stadium for their second straight home game. In their last outing, the Wolves captured a 3-1 victory over the Wilmington Hammerheads last Sunday. The Wolves received some good fortune in the opening minutes as the Hammerheads attempted to clear their lines, but the ball ricocheted, conceding a goal to the Wolves. The Wolves recorded a second goal just after the half-hour mark, but the Hammerheads fought to cut the lead to one before the intermission. Following the break, the Hammerheads were reduced to 10 men on a harsh challenge in the 60th minute. The Wolves sealed the victory with a goal in the 83rd minute to earn their second win of the season.
The Blues are coming off a convincing 4-0 win over the Hammerheads last Friday night at Titan Stadium. The Hammerheads were reduced to 10 men in the first minute of play following a strong challenge by Paul Nicholson. The Blues wasted little time to jump on top of the Hammerheads when Shay Spitz found the back of the goal in the 5th minute. Finishing with two goals in both halves, the Blues recorded their fourth win of the season and currently sit in second place. ###
The Riverhounds return to Highmark Stadium on May 9 for a Thursday night match against the Phoenix FC Wolves. Promoting the game as 'Ladies Night', the Riverhounds will be wearing pink kits for the game and will honor the 'Soccer Mom of Pittsburgh' at halftime. Following the game, the Riverhounds will participate in a 'Shirt of the Back' raffle to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Tickets can be purchased for the game at riverhounds.com.
