Riverhounds Prep for Playoff Opener Sunday at Birmingham

Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will travel to face Birmingham Legion FC at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala., in the USL Championship Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The match will be shown live on 22 The Point (WPNT) and ESPN+.
It is the fifth consecutive season the Hounds (16-9-9) have qualified for the postseason, which is a team record and the second-longest running streak in the USL Championship.
Additional notes
Playoff format: The USL Championship Playoffs, presented by Hisense, will feature 14 teams in a single elimination format culminating with the USL Final on Nov. 13 on ESPN2. The top seed in each conference - Louisville and San Antonio - receives a bye into the conference semifinals, and teams will be reseeded within their conference after the quarterfinal round. A copy of the bracket is attached.
Home cooking: The Hounds' 10th regular season at Highmark Stadium concluded last Saturday with the team's 3-1 win over Oakland, and the 2022 home season was among the best in club history. The team finished with its best average attendance for a regular season at Highmark Stadium, averaging 3,934 fans per game to eclipse the record set in 2019 by more than 200. The team ended with a 9-3-5 home record in USL matches - the fifth straight season the team had three losses or fewer at home - and is 75-42-46 all-time in their South Shore home.
