The Riverhounds FC (1-0-2) tied the United Soccer League leading Cincinnati Kings (3-1-1) in at the Xavier University Soccer Complex in Cincinnati Saturday night when the defenses of both teams held the scoreboard at zero.
The Riverhounds had a couple of chances, but were unable to get the ball into the net for a Pittsburgh score. Kings goalie James Jordan was credited with three saves, while the HOUNDS® goaltender Terrance McNelis had six.
Jason Kutney broke through the Kings' defense during the second half, but the King's Goalkeeper made a great save. Another attempt in the second period found David Flavius with a great opportunity, but the veteran forward shot wide.
The play of the game came in the 60th minute when Kings' Jaman Nowaf broke through the HOUNDS® defense, heading for the goal, but Goalie Terry McNelis was able to fend off the attempt, keeping the game scoreless.
"I thought the team again showed a lot of heart and a lot of character," said head coach Gene Klein. "These guys have tremendous will. We continue to improve with each game."
The Riverhounds travel to Virginia to face the USL second place Richmond Kickers on May 20th.
