Cincinnati Kings News Release
CINCINNATI--The Cincinnati Kings' pink socks did not produce a rosy outcome on Saturday night as the Kings and Pittsburgh Riverhounds battled to a 0-0 tie in United Soccer Leagues Second Division action at the Xavier University Soccer Complex.
A crowd of 1,139 saw the Kings outshoot the Riverhounds, 18 to 9 on a night that the Kings wore pink socks for breast cancer awareness and to honor the local Pink Ribbon Girls breast cancer support group.
"We had several good chances right in front of the net," said Coach Jon Pickup. "We just couldn't put it in the bucket. It was disappointing to be shut out at home."
Kings goalie James Jordan was credited with three saves, while Pittsburgh goaltender Terrance McNelis had six.
The Kings have a week off before they go on the road on Saturday, May 27 to play the Wilmington Hammerheads. "We need to spend this week off working on our speed of play," said Pickup. "We also need to work on our positive play. We started out positive in this game, but then let Pittsburgh back in the game."
The Kings remain at the top of the Second Division standings with a 3-1-1 record. Pittsburgh is now 1-0-2.
