Riverhawk Lineman Receives Honors
For the second straight week a Johnstown Riverhawks lineman has brought home Northern Division player of the week honors. Ian Hale, a rookie from Morgan State received lineman of the week honors following his efforts in a 51-16 win over the Syracuse Soldiers on Sunday March 12. Ian was part of an offensive line that did not allow a sack in the game. On the defensive side of the ball Ian had 1 solo tackle, 2 quarterback hurries and an interception return of 13 yards for a touchdown that helped to clinch the Riverhawks win.
Riverhawks Make Moves
The Riverhawks have also made some roster moves this week. Quarterback Marques Rieschl (Western New Mexico) was given his unconditional release. In one game for the Riverhawks Marques went 9-29 for 68 yards. Also OL/DL Auodij Washington (Virginia Union) was traded to the Syracuse Soldiers for future considerations. In one game for the Riverhawks Auodij had 2 tackles and a quarterback hurry. The Riverhawks have signed QB Adam Haught 6'3" 200 from Heidelburg College in Ohio. Adam was drafted by the Raleigh Rebels last season in the 8th round of the AIFL draft. Lost to a hand injury in camp last season, Adam spent the off-season rehabilitating and was signed by the Reading Express early this year then released after week 2 this season.
Look At Huntington
This Friday the Johnstown Riverhawks return to action for their home opener against the Huntington Heros. The Heros(1-0) coached by Gary McPeek have a strong Marshal University presence on their roster with 13 former thundering herd alums. They are coming off a 62-13 win over the Miami Valley Silverbacks. Quarterback Fred Ray of Ohio University led the way with 5 touchdown passes. The Riverhawks lined up against one of the smallest players in the league last week verses Syracuse , 5'7"160 pound receiver Rychard Dykes out of the University of Buffalo. This week verses Huntington they will be lining up against the biggest 6'10" 385 pound OL/DL Chris Nunn from Glenville State WV. Game time is 7:00pm, great seats still available just call the Cambria County War Memorial box office at 814-536-5156.
