LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks completed an earlier trade with Tuesday's acquisition of pitcher Scott Kelley.
The RiverHawks picked up the right-hander from Gary of the independent American Association to complete a Nov. 2, 2011 deal that sent second baseman David Cooper to the RailCats for a player to be named later.
Kelley, 25, returns to the Frontier League, where spent last season. With Evansville in 2011, Kelley was 6-6 with a 5.64 earned-run average in 21 appearances, 19 as a starter. Kelley struck out 104 and walked 76 in 99 innings.
Kelley is a former Kansas City farmhand. The Royals drafted him in the 23rd round three years ago. He got as far as high Class A with the K.C. organization.
Rockford opens the regular season at 7:05 p.m. Friday, May 18 at River City. The RiverHawks' home opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday, May 25 against Lake Erie. The Power Connection sponsors a postgame fireworks extravaganza.
