
Riverdragons to Recognize Local Youth Basketball All-Star

COLUMBUS, Ga., (Jan. 29) - Darius Whitfield of the Columbus-Phenix City Boys & Girls Club will be recognized during a quarter break of the Columbus Riverdragons game against N. Charleston Tuesday, February 4 at the Civic Center. Tip-off is 7 p.m. Darius, 12, was selected to be a member of the Jr. NBA National All-Star team and will represent the Atlanta Hawks during the 2003 All-Star Weekend in Atlanta Feb. 7-9.
A forward for the 76ers in the Columbus-Phenix City Boys & Girls Club basketball league, Darius will play in an exhibition game on the Philips Arena floor prior the NBA's Rookie Challenge. In addition to averaging 18 points for the 76ers, Darius is an honor student at S. Girard School in Phenix City.
Riverdragons center Tyrone Washington is partnering with Riverdragons sponsors West Georgia Othrodontics to purchase tickets and throw a party at the game to encourage Darius' teammates, coach and peers from the Columbus-Phenix City Boys & Girls Club to attend the presentation.
