Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON- The Charleston RiverDogs, the Class-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, will look to keep racking up the victories as they host their third eight-game homestand of the season from May 12 through May 19 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
In pair of four-game sets, the RiverDogs will host the Greenville Drive, an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, from the 12th through the 15th, and the Asheville Tourists, an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, from the 16th though the 19th.
First pitch for each contest will be at 7:05 p.m., with several exceptions. The RiverDogs play three of their games from Thursday through Saturday as part of a doubleheader with The Citadel. First pitch for the games on Thursday and Friday is slated for 7:35 p.m., while Saturday will start at the normal 7:05 p.m. Sunday's first pitch will begin at the usual Sunday start time of 4:05 p.m.
Monday, May 12, will kickoff the homestand with the third Dogs With a Cause Night presented by 94.3 WSC and CarMax. On this evening, the RiverDogs partner with the Lowcountry Food Bank, a local non-profit organization, in hopes of generating exposure and funds for their cause. Fans are encouraged to bring in canned goods to The Joe on this evening to help the cause even more. During the first series with the Drive, both teams will be wearing replica Yankees and Red Sox jerseys on both Tuesday and Thursday night to celebrate their respective affiliations, with the jerseys being auctioned off after Thursday's game.
Another BI-LO Two for Tuesday presented by BI-LO, B92, the CW, and CarMax, will occur on May 13, with two-for-one discounts on all seats. It will also be Honey, I Think My Hot Dog is GREEN Night at the The Joe, in which the RiverDogs promotional crew will randomly place coupons in select hot dogs ranging from $2 up to $100. All coupons can be redeemed for cash at the GEICO Guest Services Booth that evening.
Wednesday, May 14, will be another Wild Wednesday presented by 98X and CarMax. The $20 All-U-Can-Eat special in the Ashley View Pub will be at full force once again with its rotating featured items that will be available until the seventh inning. It will mark one of the hairiest nights in the history of The Joe, as the RiverDogs hold their inaugural Salute to the Yankees Facial Hair Policy Night, which features a special appearance from the Holy City Beards and Moustaches Club. The RiverDogs promotional crew is turning the infamous Yankees decree on its ear by offering a $1 ticket discount for a superiorly scruffy visage.
Thursday., May 15, marks yet another Thirsty Thursday, presented by 95SX and CarMax, with $1 food and drink specials all evening. The replica Yankees and Red Sox jersey worn by all players and coaches during the series will be auctioned off following the game with proceeds going to the MUSC Storm Eye Institute.
Charleston welcomes Asheville to The Joe beginning Friday, May 16, for another Force Protection Red Shirt Friday, presented by Force Protection Industries, Inc. and WEZL. Fans who wear a red shirt to Friday night home games will receive one dollar off their ticket price at the box office, and will then have the option to donate that dollar to support service families. The RiverDogs will also wear special red jerseys on Friday home games, which will be auctioned off at the end of the season to support Charleston Area Service Men and Women.
The night also marks the first-ever Indiana Jones is Old Night at The Joe, which will not only commemorate the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on May 22, but will also play off the fact that star Harrison Ford is 65 years old and has played the adventurous archaeologist since 1981. Fans will also be treated to another Friday Night Fireworks spectacular following the game.
Saturday, May 17, marks the RiverDogs' Yankees Carpet Bag Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans through the turnstiles that evening. This giveaway also parallels the overall influence and impact of carpetbaggers during the Civil War era.
In addition to another Family Sunday on May 18, it will be the second Dog Day at The Joe, presented by the Charleston County Parks & Recreation Center/MUSC Sports Medicine and WAZS, where all dogs on a leash get into the park for free. The RiverDogs will also be accepting the vouchers from the Kite Giveaway originally slated for April 26.
Monday, May 19, concludes the homestand with the fourth Dogs With a Cause Night presented by Magic 107.3 FM. On this evening, the RiverDogs will partner with The Children's Miracle Network to focus attention on and generate monetary donations for their cause.
Following this homestand, Charleston ventures on another eight-game road trip with two four-game stops, first against the aforementioned Greenville Drive, and then the Augusta GreenJackets, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
