Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - As the 2018 season is winding down, it's not too early to start making summer plans for another season of RiverDogs baseball at Charleston's youngest historic site, Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The Charleston RiverDogs, in conjunction with the South Atlantic League, have announced the 2019 schedule in what will be the Charleston club's 23rd year at The Joe.
The RiverDogs open their home slate after a week on the road on Thursday, April 11 as they host the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Class A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, at Joe Riley Park to start a seven-day homestand.
Charleston begins the 2019 campaign on the road, taking part in the Opening Day festivities on Thursday, April 4 at Spirit Communications Park in Columbia. The Dogs will start the season with a four-game series against the Fireflies before a three-day stay in Asheville, N.C. before circling back to Charleston for the annual home opener at the Joe.
The Holy City's Opening Day marks the first of 11 Budweiser Thirsty Thursdays throughout the season. The RiverDogs will also play 11 games each on Fridays, Saturday and Sundays at home, marking the dates of their 11 Friday fireworks shows and MUSC Health Family Sundays as part of the weekend festivities.
The RiverDogs' most common opponents in 2019 will be the division-rival Asheville Tourists (COL), whom the RiverDogs will face 23 times during the course of the season, followed next by Columbia (NYM, 21 times) and Greenville (BOS, 19 times).
The RiverDogs will travel 9,187 miles on the road over the course of their 140-game slate, with nearby Spirit Communications Park in Columbia as their most common destination. Charleston will travel to 11 other South Atlantic League cities, facing all league opponents on the road save for Hagerstown (WAS) and West Virginia (WV). The Hagerstown Suns are the only team in the league without a trip to Riley Park next year.
The RiverDogs will announce the full promotional schedule in the Spring of 2019 leading up to the season. Season-ticket plans for the 2019 campaign are now available.
RiverDogs single-game tickets, including options to the Riley Park Club, are available for the remainder of the 2018 campaign, the club's 25th season as the RiverDogs and their "175th season in dog years." Ticket information can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com/tickets.
