Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC -- Charleston RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols has announced that Jim Pfander, who has served as the club's director of promotions the past two seasons, has been promoted to assistant general manager.

Pfander will continue with his promotional responsibilities for the Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees.

"Jim has done a wonderful job with promotions during his first two seasons with the RiverDogs and he is most deserving of this promotion," said Echols. "He possesses the unique ability of planning, implementing and enjoying the promotions that Mike Veeck-owned ball clubs are known for.

"Jim understands what our fans like and want, and he does a great job of providing those," Echols added.

"It truly is an honor to work so closely with (co-owner) Mike Veeck, Dave Echols and the entire RiverDogs front-office staff," said Pfander. "It is a credit to the entire group because the fun that we have on a day-to-day basis directly transfers to our fans. I look forward to continue learning from one of the best operations in all of Minor League Baseball.

"Additionally, our record-breaking attendance in 2006 (267,908) solidifies that our fans truly 'get' what we're all about promotionally and our desire to provide a great family environment."

Pfander, a native of Akron, OH, has begun his eighth season in professional baseball and third with the RiverDogs. Prior to coming to Charleston, Pfander spent two seasons with the Brockton Rox of the Can Am League as the director of promotions and merchandise.

He has also worked with the Spokane Indians and the Cleveland Indians.

A 2000 graduate of Ohio University with a degree in broadcast journalism, Pfander, and his wife, Page, live in Mt. Pleasant.
