RiverDogs, Mallards execute trade

RICHMOND, VA- The Richmond RiverDogs, proud member of the United Hockey League, announce that the RiverDogs and Quad City Mallards have made a trade with the RiverDogs sending forwards Rafal Martynowski and J.J. Wrobel to the Mallards in exchange for forwards Evgeny Lazarev and Cody Doucette.

Lazarev, a 6-1, 208 pound Right Wing from Kharkov, Ukraine, is in his sixth season as a pro. Drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the 3rd round, 79th pick overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, led the Mallards most of the season in scoring with 11 goals, 15 assists for 26 points in 31 games. His best season was in 2000-2001 where he scored 17 goals, 21 assists for 38 points in 80 games with the Hershey Bears of the AHL. Along with Hershey, he has seen action with Pensacola, Johnstown and Wheeling, all in the ECHL. This is his first season in the UHL.

Doucette, a 6-0, 203 pound Center from Charlottetown, PEI, is a rookie in his first full season as a pro. Last season he played one game with Florida (ECHL) and registered four minutes in penalties. His junior career saw him with Quebec and Moncton in the QMJHL along with Summerside in the MJAHL. His best season was in 2002-2003 when he scored 4 goals, 14 assists for 18 points and 356 penalty minutes with Summerside. This season, Doucette has appeared in 14 games and has racked up 40 minutes in penalties.

The RiverDogs play back-to-back home games on Friday and Saturday, January 6 & 7 against the two-time defending Colonial Cup champion Muskegon Fury, both games beginning at 7:35pm. Friday's game is a Fas mart Friday and the first 3,000 fans will receive a RiverDogs travel mug from the folks at Fas mart. The Saturday home game will be Richmond Times-Dispatch Family 4 Pack Night. For $44.00 a family (or group) of four will receive four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and four Fas mart Fling-A-Pucks. The package also includes four coupons for each of the following: Chipolte Burritos, Skate passes from Skate Nation Plus, smoothies from Tropical Smoothie Café, race passes at G-Force Racing and 4 free weeks of the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

In other RiverDogs news, goaltender Mike D'Alessandro has been called-up by the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League. The Admirals are the farm team of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks. The call-up of D'Alessandro is the first for the RiverDogs this season.
