TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The 14th of 17 meetings and the seventh of eight here. The âDogs are 7-6 vs. the Jackals, 4-2 at the Coliseum. Ryan Prentice has 12 points vs. the Jackals. Jason Sessa has 23 vs. the âDogs. Jackals are 20-68 (29.4%) on the power play vs. Richmond. The âDogs are third in the East, 10 points ahead of the fourth place Jackals. Richmond trails Flint by two points in the wild card chase.
LAST ACTION: The âDogs beat Danbury 6-2 here Wednesday. Richmond went 3-4 on the power play, 5-5 on the penalty kill, and scored shorthanded. The âDogs fired a season high 48 shots on goal, out-shooting Danbury by 19. David Hymovitz had two goals and an assist. Francis Belanger had two goals. Ryan Prentice had three assists. The clubs combined for 98 PIM. The Jackals lost to Danbury 6-2 on the road Saturday. The Trashers scored a pair of shorthanded goals, scoring twice in the second period to snap a 2-2 tie.
'DOG BITES: The âDogs have activated Darren Wetherill from the IR and placed Mark Turner on the IR. Trevor Senn is on the 21 Day IR. The 'Dogs are 2-2 on a six game homestand. The 'Dogs are 10 for their last 30 on the power play (33%) and 33 for their last 37 on the penalty kill (89.2%) over an eight game stretch. The âDogs power play has improved to fourth best in the league. David Hymovitz has points in four straight games. Hymovitz is tied for fifth in the league in scoring. Nathan Grobins is tied for fifth in the league in shutouts. Kyle Sheen is tied for second in the league in game winning goals by a rookie and leads the league's rookies in penalty minutes. Luch Nasato is tied for fourth in points by a defenseman. Following tomorrow night's game, the âDogs play 15 of their next 18 on the road.
JACKALS NOTES: The Jackals have lost five straight games. They are playing for the first time since trading leading scorer Greg Koehler to Adirondack for defenseman Jason Jaworski. Greg Hewitt leads the league in minutes played by a goaltender, saves, and losses. Jason Sessa is second in the league in power play goals with 14. Elmira is 2-11-1 in their last 14 games. Tonight is the second of a three game road trip for the Jackals. They are in a stretch of eight straight games vs. Eastern Division opponents. The Jackals last two wins have come in shootouts. Their last regulation win was January 7 vs. Richmond.
