TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The first of five meetings with the Wings and the first of two here. The âDogs are 2-1 vs. Western Conference opponents with all three games at home. Richmond is in a second place tie in the Eastern Conference with Flint, now five points behind Columbus and two points ahead of Elmira. The Wings are fourth in the Western Conference, two points behind Quad City with a game in hand. Kalamazoo is 1-4-1 vs. Eastern Conference opponents.
LAST ACTION: The RiverDogs lost 8-4 to Columbus here Wednesday. The âDogs scored first but the Stars erupted for five goals in 4:47 of the first period. Nick Bootland wound up with his second hat trick against Richmond this season. The âDogs out-shot the Stars 46-29. Kevin St. Jacques scored twice for Richmond. The Wings lost 4-3 in a shootout at home to Muskegon Wednesday. The Wings out-shot the Fury 43-30 but allowed three power play goals. Marty Flichel had a goal and assist.
'DOG BITES: Richmond is winless in their last five games (0-4-1). They still have not lost more than two games in a row in regulation. The âDogs have lost two straight. Tonight is game four of a 10 game homestand. The âDogs are 0-2-1 thus far. By the end of the homestand the âDogs will have played 15 of 17 games at home. Richmond still has the best road record in the Eastern Conference. The eight goals allowed by the âDogs Wednesday is a season high. The âDogs 46 shots equaled a season high. Richmond snapped an 0-22 power play slump with two man-advantage goals Wednesday. The âDogs lead the UHL in PIM. They are third in shots per game. The âDogs lost a game in regulation when scoring first for the first time this season Wednesday. The âDogs have three of the UHL's top 20 scorers. J.J. Wrobel is tied for 17th, Kevin St. Jacques is 19th, and Jay Murphy is tied for 20th. Jeff Ewasko is fourth in penalty minutes. Nine of the âDogs 11 losses have been by three or more goals.
WINGS NOTES: Kalamazoo is unbeaten in regulation in their last three games. The Wings have won two straight on the road. Marty Flichel and Andrew Luciuk have points in five straight games. This is the first of a three game road trip. Chad Alban is third in the UHL in goals against average. The Wings lead the league in penalty killing (86.6%). They are second in the league in goals against average, first in shots on goal, and second in fewest shots allowed. They are out-shooting opponents by an average of more than six per game.
AROUND THE UHL: There were no games last night. There are five other games in the league tonight: Quad City at Adirondack, Muskegon at Columbus, Ft. Wayne at Elmira, Missouri at Flint, and Rockford at Port Huron.
NEXT UP: The âDogs are home against the Wings again tomorrow night at 7:35. There will be a post-game skate with RiverDogs players free for all fans. Richmond is home Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday next week.
