Elmira Jackals News Release
The Fort Wayne Komets ended the Jackals homestand on a sour note. As Elmira packs up for a 7-game road trip, Fort Wayne made their first encounter with the Jackals a difficult one to swallow for the home team; a 5-1 Komets victory. The Jackals took an early lead as Don Smith scored halfway through period number one. But Shawn Venedam tied it up late in the period, the first of five straight Komets goals. Ryan Severson scored the first of three second period goals, followed by Danny Stewart's short handed goal, and a late strike from Colin Chaulk to send Fort Wayne into the break up 4-1. Elmira pressed in the third but it was David Beauregard snapping a wrist shot in on the power play to cap the scoring for the defending Colonial Cup champs. Kevin St. Pierre stopped 26 of 27 for the victory, while Peter Aubry made 20 saves on 25 shots for Elmira.
The Jackals begin their big road trip in Flint Saturday night, for their second meeting with the Generals in as many weeks.
