RiverDogs come from behind for win

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves lost game one of a four game series 6-5 to the Charleston RiverDogs tonight at State Mutual Stadium in front of 2,881 fans. Rome had a 5-3 lead going into the ninth inning but Charleston rallied for three runs to take the lead and eventually the victory.

The RiverDogs scored a run in the third inning on a bases loaded walk to take a 1-0 lead. They added to the lead in the fourth with two runs on an RBI single by Reegie Corona and a double steal that scored Kevin Nelson giving Charleston a 3-0 lead. Rome tied the game in the sixth on an RBI triple by Quentin Davis and a two run homer by Eric Campbell (12). The Braves took a 4-3 lead in the seventh as Jamie Romak reached on an error and was replaced at first base by Jordan Schafer. Derrick Arnold then reached on another error and Schafer scored to give Rome the edge.

Rome added an additional run in the eighth after Elvis Andrus singled and Eric Campbell was hit by a pitch. Max Ramirez then singled up the middle to score Andrus and Rome was in command 5-3.

Charleston then took the lead in the ninth inning with three unearned runs. Jose Tabata lead off the inning with a bunt single and moved to second on a fielding error by Elvis Andrus on a ball hit by C.J. Henry. Tim Battle then singled to left to score Tabata to make the score 5-4. Kevin Nelson then doubled to left field just past Ovandy Suero to score two runs to give the RiverDogs a 6-5 lead. Charleston's Cory Stuart shut the Braves down in the bottom half of the inning to secure the victory. Stuart gets the win (4-1) and Nick Tisone (0-3) took the loss.

Rome and Charleston play again tomorrow night at seven. Fans will have the opportunity to enter the record books with a whistle blowing event presented by Promotions Plus. Rome fans will attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records with the largest number of people blowing whistles simultaneously.
