River Sharks Sign Players for Upcoming Season

Tennessee River Sharks News Release
The Tennessee River Sharks coaching staff has been busy with their recruiting efforts for the National Indoor Football League expansion team in Chattanooga.
Most recently the Sharks signed a running back from Georgia southern. He is Roderick Russell a 5' 10", 245 pound fullback. Russell was a three time All-Southern Conference back. A native of Georgia, he has been playing indoor football for the past two seasons with the former Ghost Riders. In 1997 Russell was the 13 th leading rusher in Division 1A and 5 th leading rusher in Division 1AA and was part of two Division 1AA national championship teams at Georgia Southern. Against Florida Russell rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Head Coach Chris Carter said, "I feel Russell will be a great addition to the River Sharks, he's a tough runner and I feel we can depend on him to get us those tough yards."
The River Sharks also signed Damien Smith, a quarterback and native of Chattanooga. Smith is 6' 0", 190 pounds and "looked very good in tryouts" according to Coach Carter. He has played indoor football with the Tupelo Fire Ants of the NIFL. A graduate of Lane College, he was All-Conference three years straight. Carter says, "One thing we need at the quarterback position is experience and Damien gives us a great chance to win. He's played the game before and realizes how fast this game is, he makes great decisions with the ball and is very coachable."
The Tennessee River Sharks will begin their season at home at Camp Jordan Arena on March 11, 2006. Season tickets are on sale now by calling toll free 1-877-SHARKS-1. Tickets can also be purchased at any Sports Barn location. All seats at Camp Jordan Arena are general admission and general admission reserved. The River Sharks are also selling corporate box seating on the floor next to the playing field. The box seats are available through corporate sponsorship.
