
River Rats Home Opener Set For October 11

Albany N.Y. - The Albany River Rats today announced that the club's 2008-09 home opener will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2008 in a 7:00pm face-off at the Times Union Center. The team also released its 15 opponents for the upcoming American Hockey League season. The complete 2008-09 AHL schedule will be announced later this summer.
Albany's 16th AHL campaign includes a total of 46 games against the club's six East Division rivals the Binghamton Senators (4H, 4A), Bridgeport Sound Tigers (4H, 4A), Hershey Bears (3H, 3A), Norfolk Admirals (4H, 4A), Philadelphia Phantoms (4H, 4A), and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (4H, 4A). Albany will match up against all seven Atlantic Division opponents the Hartford Wolf Pack (1H, 1A), Lowell Devils (2H, 2A), Manchester Monarchs (1H, 1A), Portland
Pirates (2H, 2A), Providence Bruins (1H, 1A), Springfield Falcons (2H, 2A), and Worcester Sharks (2H, 2A). The team will skate in 12 games against longtime New York State rivals the Rochester Americans (2H, 2A) and Syracuse Crunch (4H, 4A).
In operation since 1936, the AHL serves as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 84 percent of today's NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the seventh year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2007-08.
The Albany River Rats, owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., serve as the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes and begin their 16th American Hockey League campaign this October.
