Missouri River Otters News Release

ST. CHARLES, MO (August 19, 2003) – Head coach/director of hockey operations Lonnie Loach of the Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League (UHL) announced today that the team has signed rookie goaltender Tim Knudsen for the 2003-2004 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Knudsen, a 24-year-old native of Kitchener, Ontario, had a great season with the Kalamazoo Wings in 2000-01. He went 10-6-3 in 22 games for the Wings, and had a respectable 3.02 goals against average, and a .911 save percentage. He also had 18 penalty minutes, a lot for a goalie in 22 games, which shows his intensity.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound goaltender took a year off from professional hockey, but stayed in shape playing in a competitive senior men's league. In 2001-02, Knudsen split time with the Wings and the Rockford Icehogs. And despite having been in 33 career games, Knudsen hasn't surpassed the 2400 minutes played requirement, so he is still a rookie. Knudsen is ready to get back between the pipes in the United Hockey League. "Tim's a big goalie who uses his size well, getting square to the shooter," Coach Loach said. "He impressed me when he was playing against us with Kalamazoo. He's a hard worker, and a great guy in the dressing room."

With the signing of Knudsen, and longtime River Otter Brian Regan, the River Otters have their goaltending positions filled. Missouri has also signed returning forwards Charlie Blyth and Joe Ritson, former UHL scoring champ Jeff Petruic, grinders Jason Clarke and Kori Davison, veteran center Troy Mann, and defensemen Ryan Gillis.

The Missouri River Otters fifth anniversary season commences at the St. Charles Family Arena on Friday, October 24, 2003, at 7:30. The opener features the return of last year's coach, Mark Reeds, and his new team, the Kalamazoo Wings. It also is the debut of former team captain, Lonnie Loach, as the head coach of the River Otters. It's also St. Louis Pizza and Wings magnet schedule night. Season ticket packages and corporate partnership opportunities are available by calling the River Otters at 636.946.0003.
