October 3, 2003 - United Hockey League (UHL)
Missouri River Otters News Release

ST. CHARLES, MO (October 3, 2003) – Head coach/director of hockey operations Lonnie Loach of the Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League (UHL) announced today that second-year center Colin Embley has been signed for the 2003-2004 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Embley – the 26-year-old native of Vernon, British Columbia – contributed 44 points (25g, 19a) and 39 penalty minutes to the Fresno Falcons last year, along with 11 points (6g, 5a) in 13 playoff games. His effort earned him the status of WCHL Rookie of the Year for the 2002-03 season. Embley made some noise during the season, leading WCHL rookies in almost every category (goals, assists, points, and game-winning goals), grabbing Player of the Week honors in February, and guiding the team to a valiant effort in the WCHL finals before losing the best-of-seven series to the San Diego Gulls (3-4).

Before turning pro, Embley excelled as an amateur and collegiate player. He posted 68 points (35g, 32a) in 52 games with the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BJCHL), before signing on with the University of Calgary. In his sophmore season, Embley was third in scoring with 41 points (15g, 26a). He led the team as an upper-classman, grabbing 49 points (32g, 17a) as a junior, and chalking up 50 points (20g, 30a) in 32 games as a senior.

"Embley is a strong center with great hands," coach Loach said. "He will be able to slide in on a line with Joe Ritson and Jeff Petruic. We should get some great production from those guys."

The River Otters' players under contract include defensemen Anthony Cappelletti, Bob Rapoza, Jeff Cameron, Doug Searle, Ryan Gillis, and Tony White, along with forwards Colin Embley, J.P. Beilsten, Joe Ritson, Charlie Blyth, Jeff Petruic, Kori Davison, Troy Mann, and rookie Jesse Heerema. The River Otters have also signed two goaltenders - Brian Regan and Tim Knudsen. Rookie defenseman Chad Moore has been invited to the River Otters 2003 training camp.

The Missouri River Otters open their new season on October 24th. The Kalamazoo Wings and former River Otters coach Mark Reeds come to town to take on Reeds' former captain and new River Otters head coach Lonnie Loach. It's also St. Louis Pizza and Wings Magnet Schedule Night. Don't forget that all full season ticket holders have been entered in the River Otters' Gulliver's Travels Vacation Sweepstakes. The drawing to win a seven-day all-inclusive trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, will be held on opening night, October 24th. Season ticket packages and corporate partnership opportunities are available by calling the River Otters at 636.896.4200.
