Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Davenport, Iowa - Having been held without a run for eight innings last night, the Quad Cities River Bandits were shutout entirely on Friday night, as they dropped their second game of the series, falling to the Peoria Chiefs 3-0 at Modern Woodmen Park.
As they had done in two of the previous ballgames, the Chiefs scored the game's first run. With Charlie Neuweiler getting the start for the Bandits, it was Tyler Reichenborn's leadoff homer that got the visitors out to the 1-0 lead.
Peoria made it 2-0 in the very next frame with Matt Chamberlain's RBI coming in on the third of three-straight singles that accounted for part of 10 hits off of Neuweiler.
In the bottom of the second, the Bandits saw Nathan Eaton get to third on a pair of errors and a stolen base against Connor Lunn, but the righthander never faced more than four batters in any of his six scoreless innings and had his lead extended to 3-0 when Francisco Hernandez's single plated Moises Castillo for the final blemish of Neuweiler's line.
Christian Cosby gave the Bandits three clean innings out of the bullpen and kept his team in the game with five strikeouts while scattering two hits and no walks, but Mac Lardner picked up where Connor Lunn left off and also worked three scoreless with a pair of punch-outs and stranded a one-out walk to Nathan Eaton in the ninth to record his first save of the year.
In their third time being shutout in 2021, Neuweiler (0-1) took his first loss of the season and allowed a combined 12 baserunners over his longest start of the season (six innings).
Lunn (4-5) got the win for Peoria after needing just 71 pitches to strikeout six over six innings while allowing just three hits.
With the series tied at two games apiece, Quad Cities will send Anthony Veneziano (2-2, 4.21) to the hill in game five on Saturday, while it will be Wilfredo Pereira (2-6, 4.44) toeing the rubber for Peoria. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CDT.
