San Diego Riptide News Release

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Riptide is hosting arena football’s first teddy bear toss to benefit Children’s Hospital on Saturday, July 30th, kicking off the San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Teddy Bear Drive. All fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal and toss it onto the field when the Riptide score their first touchdown. The teddy bears will then be collected and donated to Children’s Hospital. The goal of the Teddy Bear Drive is to collect 15,000 bears by Christmas.

Children’s Hospital is celebrating 50 years of providing service to the San Diego community. Their mission: “to restore, sustain and enhance the health and developmental potential of children” has been sustained only through the help of a compassionate community. Riptide Quarterback, Kane Claunch, has been honored as one of the Heroes for Children’s Hospital. The Heroes for Children’s program aims to get 1,000 heroes to raise $1,500 or more each. Children’s Hospital’s final goal is to raise $1 million or more by their 50th anniversary celebration in November 2004.

Come show your support for your San Diego Riptide and Children’s Hospital for the final game of the season on July 30th at 7:30 PM by participating in the inaugural teddy bear toss. Also, in honor of Fan Appreciation Night, the first 3,000 fans will receive free camouflage floppy hats.
