San Diego Riptide News Release
The Riptide were assigned DS Darnell Lacy and OL/DL Matt Gehrig. Lacy returns to San Diego after spending the 2004 season with the Central Valley Coyotes. Gehrig will be entering his first season in the arena league.
Lacy makes his return to San Diego this season after spending last year with the Central Valley Coyotes. While with the Coyotes, this DS was third on the team in tackles with 37 and recorded a pass deflection. Previous to his move north, he played six games with the âTide and chipped in with 17 tackles and two pass deflections in limited playing time. His first season in the league was with the Fresno Frenzy in 2002. That season, he recorded 64 tackles and 13 pass deflections on defense. On offense, he caught 14 passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns.
Gehrig enters his first season of professional football this year. The All-Ohio Valley Conference first team selection guard played college ball at Eastern Illinois University. His greatest moment in sports was when his team dominated Northern Illinois University in 1998. He is the sixth lineman to be assigned to the team.
