Arkansas RimRockers News Release
Little Rock, AR. (Wednesday, November 24, 2004)- The Arkansas RimRockers signed the 6'2 guard George Gervin Jr. to the 2004-2005 season. Gervin begins practicing immediately and will play with the RimRockers in their next home game, Sunday, Nov. 28 at 2:00 p.m., at Alltel Arena.
Upon graduating from the University of Houston in 2000, he signed with the ABA's Detroit Dogs. After his year with the Dog's, Gervin spent time playing in Brazilian leagues as well as playing in Sweden and most recently in Cypress.
While at the University of Houston, he finished his senior season averaging 18 points, 3.6 rebounds and 95 total assists, was chosen all-district Nine selection by U.S. Basketball Writers Association, was named to the All-Junior College Transfer team by College Hoops Inside and became the first Cougar in history to earn first-team All-Conference USA distinctions.
"We are very happy to have George as the newest addition to our team," Head Coach Joe Harge said. "He has experience playing in the ABA and will immediately boost our team's level of competition."
Gervin is the son of former ABA great George "Ice Man" Gervin, who coached him when he played for the Detroit Dogs. He is a native of San Antonio, Texas and graduated from MacArther High School where he earned honorable mention high school All-America, was named an All-City and first team All-State selection as a senior, played in the Texas High School All-Star game and was one of the most highly sought players in the state.
The Arkansas RimRockers, owned by Larry Crain Sr., play all home games in Alltel Arena. Tickets for RimRocker games can be purchased by calling 501-975-7575. The American Basketball Association season runs from November through March with playoffs beginning in April.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
