Add Long Island to 2005 expansion teams

November 24, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA co-Founder, today announced that Long Island, New York has been added to the roster of teams that will be joining the ABA professional basketball league in 2005. According to Newman, "Obviously, we are very excited about having a team on Long Island. It's long overdue as LI was a major part of the original ABA. We have a terrific ownership group that is already putting its plans into action and gearing up for next season. With teams in Brooklyn, Harlem and Mahwah, this should create quite a rivalry in the area."

The team will be owned by Sports Franchise Aquisition Corp. and will be headed by team co-Owner Darren J. Cioffi, a Long Island based business man with a strong background in marketing. Cioffi added, "Our first order of business is putting in place a good playing venue and we're working on that right now. We're very PR oriented, so you should be hearing a lot from us - name, coach, venue, personnel, community programs etc. Long Island will know we're here and ready to become a part of this very fun league with its great play and affordable prices."
