Arkansas RimRockers News Release
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Feb. 11 - RimRockers forward Roger Powell scored a game high 33 points to lead Arkansas past the Fort Worth Flyers, 133-101, in a Sunday afternoon game at Alltel Arena.
For the third consecutive game against the Flyers, Arkansas (9-19) came away with the victory, starting their first win streak since early December. Fort Worth continued to struggle and dropped to 18-10.
"I thought the third quarter was the best [quarter] we've played this year," said RimRockers Head Coach Andy Stoglin. "I saw some really good things today. But they have to do it two and three games in a row, then I'll know they understand how to play."
After struggling in the third quarter of Friday night's contest, blowing an 11-point lead, Arkansas pulled away this time by putting up 40 points, outscoring the Flyers by 17. The key to tonight's lopsided victory was Arkansas' defensive pressure. The RimRockers were able to score 38 points off of 27 Flyers turnovers, with 16 steals.
Clay Tucker again showed why he was elected to the D-League All-Star Game, scoring 25 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and handing out 7 assists. Brandon Dean recorded his first double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 assists.
Fort Worth's starting backcourt, Maurice Ager and Kevin Burleson, tried to keep the Flyers in the game scoring 24 and 16 respectively. Flyers Head Coach Sidney Moncrief was not pleased with his team's play or with the referees as he collected 2 of the teams' 4 technical fouls, including his ejection in the third quarter.
"I think we're playing hard now and learning how to win as a team. We're starting to believe in what we're doing and coming together and playing hard." Powell said. "We were hitting our shots. It was a good shooting game, and when you have those and play tough defense it's going to be a big, big victory."
The RimRockers head to Albuquerque to face off with the Thunderbirds on Tuesday night, while the Flyers travel to Austin for a weekend game against the Toros.
