Rielly Recieves World Jr. Invite
December 3, 2012 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Hockey Canada has announced the 37 players who have received invitations for their 2013 World Junior selection camp roster, among them is Moose Jaw Warrior defencemen Morgan Rielly.
"This is something that I've been working towards my entire career," said Rielly. "I've grown up watching the World Juniors and having the opportunity to play for Canada would be a dream come true. The camp will be hard, there are lots of great players there, I'm just going in looking to play my game and hopefully I can impress management and coaching staff enough to make the team."
"Morgan has had an outstanding start to this season and this recognition is very well deserved," said Warriors General Manager Alan Millar. "We wish Morgan and Team Canada the best as they prepare for the selection camp and the 2013 World Junior Championships in Russia."
Rielly is in his third season with the Warriors, he has six goals and 26 points and is second in team scoring. On the teams current road trip he has two goals and five points in six games, the team is 3-2-0-1 during that stretch.
The 18 year old was drafted 5th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and is no stranger to international competition. Rielly has put on a Canadian jersey at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, the Under 18 World Championships and Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament, and last summer during the Canada-Russia Challenge, as well as November's Subway Super Series.
Hockey Canada opens its camp December 10th in Calgary, on the 11th they'll play a Red/White intrasquad game, on the 12th they'll battle the University of Alberta, the 13th they'll have split squad games against the University of Calgary and Mount Royal. The roster will be finalized on the 13th; the team will then depart for Europe on the 15th where they will play two pre-competition games in Helsinki prior to the tournament. Canada opens the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships Boxing Day against Finland.
The Moose Jaw blueliner is one of 11 players from the WHL to receive an invitation. Rielly and the Warriors conclude their season high seven game road trip Tuesday in Prince George, the team returns to Mosaic Place this weekend for games against Red Deer and Spokane.
