Riders Sign Quentin Griffin

February 29, 2008 - Canadian Football League (CFL) - Saskatchewan Roughriders News Release

Saskatchewan Roughrider General Manager/Vice President of Football Operations Eric Tillman announced today they have signed import running back Quentin Griffin to a one-year plus an option contract. Financial details of the signing were not released.

Griffin (5'7 - 195 lbs) was originally drafted in the fourth round (108th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. He went on to appear in 16 games, including five starts in his initial two seasons in the league. In his rookie season, Griffin dressed in ten games and rushed for 345 yards along with eight receptions for 61 yards. He dressed in six games in 2004 and picked up 311 rushing yards and 68 receiving yards. He even set a Broncos franchise record in 2004 for most rushing yards in a season opener with a career-high 156 yards on 23 carries while also scoring the first three touchdowns of his pro career.

The 27-year old signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2006 and was the second overall pick by the Hamburg Sea Devils in the 2007 NFL Europe Draft. Griffin was Hamburg's top rusher with a 4.6 yard average and was third-best among starting running backs in NFL Europe. The multi-dimensional Griffin also led NFL Europe in kickoff return average.

Prior to joining the NFL, Griffin had a stellar career at the prestigious University of Oklahoma. In 38 college games, Griffin rushed for over 3,400 yards and 40 touchdowns. He also had 135 receptions for 1,110 yards and five touchdowns. He was an All-Conference first-team selection and an academic All-Conference selection in each of his three seasons at Oklahoma.

"Quentin is a very talented young man," stated Tillman. "His quickness, pass catching skills and return ability are all perfectly suited for the Canadian game. And, just as importantly, Quentin is the kind of character guy we are building this franchise around."
