FRISCO, TX- Despite a two-run rally in the ninth inning, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, dropped a 7-6 decision in 11 innings to the Corpus Christi Hooks in the opener of a four-game series Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
BIG MOMENTS Corpus Christi cleanup hitter J.D. Davis hit a solo home run off of Riders reliever Nick Gardewine in the 11th, giving the Hooks the lead for good. Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the ninth, Eric Aguilera's RBI groundout cut the Corpus Christi lead to 6-5, while Royce Bolinger doubled in the tying run. Corpus Christi broke the 4-4 tie in the ninth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Riders reliever Adam Loewen hit a batter and walked the next, surrendering two runs. The Riders erased an early 3-0 deficit with a four-run fourth inning. Michael De Leon doubled in a pair of Riders and Scott Heineman crushed a two-run homer, giving the Riders a 4-3 lead. The Riders played their third extra innings contests in the past six games, posting a 1-2 record in those contests. Thursday's game was also the fourth one-run affair for the Riders in their last five games. Scott Heineman extended his hitting streak and on-base streak to 11 with his two-run homer in the fourth inning. Riders pitchers walked a season-high nine Hooks hitters. WHAT'S NEXT
