NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas - The Frisco RoughRiders hit a pair of home runs in their Sunday finale against Arkansas, but ultimately fell to the Travelers, 8-4. Designated hitter Kellen Strahm and third baseman Trey Hair each went deep in the loss for Frisco, as the Riders won four of six against Arkansas to take the series at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Frisco (36-33) homered twice in the Sunday loss for just their fifth of the series against Arkansas (36-33). The RoughRiders rank second in the Texas League with 93 home runs on the season, trailing Tulsa (95) for most in the league.
Riders starter Tim Brennan (1-2) gave up six earned runs on five hits in his three innings, as Arkansas homered three times in the first three innings on Sunday. Arkansas starter Levi Stoudt (5-4) gave up three earned runs on seven hits in his five innings.
Despite the loss, the RoughRiders scored first on an RBI fielder's choice in the first inning, thanks to Blaine Crim. With runners at the corners, Crim hit a high ground ball left side of the infield and finished safe at first to score Dustin Harris from third and giving Frisco a 1-0 lead.
Arkansas hopped on Brennan in the bottom of the first with a solo shot from Arkansas designated hitter Joe Rizzo. The Travelers took the lead in the second with two outs on a two-run bop from first baseman Connor Hoover. The early runs continued for Arkansas in the third on a three-run blast from center fielder Cade Marlowe to give the Travelers a 6-1 advantage.
Frisco scored three unanswered runs to work their way back in Sunday's game, beginning with a two-out blast from Strahm in the top of the fifth frame. Strahm's two-run homer registered as his fourth longball of the season to cut into the deficit, 6-3. Hair's 13th home run came in the following inning with the bases clear and one out to dwindle the Arkansas lead to 6-4.
Following an inning from reliever Tai Tiedemann, southpaw Grant Wolfram struck out four batters and walked none in his two innings of relief. Wolfram departed after giving up a leadoff single to begin the seventh, allowing Seth Nordlin to enter in relief with nobody out. Arkansas right fielder Jack Larsen homered on Nordlin's first pitch to put the Travs in front for good, 8-4.
The Riders return to Frisco to conclude the month of June and usher in July with a six-game series against the Corpus Christi Hooks on June 28th. A promotional schedule includes Texas Baseball Legends on Wednesday, June 29th as Rangers legend Mark McLemore will be on hand for a meet and greet!
Thursday, June 30th is Singles Night as Ivan Hall from Season 16 of the Bachelorette is on hand for Thirsty Thursday, as well as another Blue Norther Hard Seltzer Rowdy @ The River.
Frisco welcomes in Stars & Stripes Weekend, beginning with Fireworks Friday, presented by Raising Cane's, and Sky-Lit Saturday! Then on Sunday, show up early for an American flag giveaway!
