Rico Petrocelli to coach for Pride

(Nashua, NH, July 28, 2006) Nashua Pride officials announced today that former Red Sox shortstop Rico Petrocelli will be honored on Sunday, July 30, on Family Faith Day.

Rico Petrocelli Appreciation Day will showcase Rico coaching first base for the Pride for the first three innings. The Major League shortstop and third baseman played his whole career with the Red Sox from 1963-1976. In 1967 Petrocelli was selected to the All-Star game and was a strong performer during the Red Sox' "Impossible Dream" year. In 1969 he set a record (since broken) for home runs by a shortstop with 40 and repeated as an All-Star. In the 1975 Fall Classic , which Boston lost to the Cincinnati Reds, Petrocelli hit .308 with four RBI and three runs, and played errorless defense. In his career, Petrocelli hit 210 home runs with 773 RBI and 653 runs in 1553 games and was inducted to the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame in 1997.

The Nashua Pride, entering their first year of play in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Historic Holman Stadium. Prior to joining the Can-Am League, the Pride played for eight seasons in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, winning the 2000 Atlantic League championship.
