Richmond-Louisiana Rematch on Saturday Could Be Season-Defining Game

Richmond Raiders News Release

Coming off a bye week, the Richmond Raiders go head-to-head with the Louisiana Swashbucklers Saturday night at the Coliseum in a rematch of a 47 to 45 nail-biter loss before a partisan crowd in Lake Charles on April 21. Louisiana, now with back to back wins, should be riding high after rolling over the Knoxville Nighthawks 61-28 last Saturday. A big question for Richmond is how much difference being on home turf will make. Reports indicate advance ticket sales for Saturday's game are at an all time high, so the atmosphere should be electric.

At their meeting on April 21, Louisiana roared out of the blocks, putting 16 points on the board before Richmond found its footing. But the Raiders bolted back, scoring 18 points to three for Louisiana to bring the score to 18-19 with less than a minute to go in the half.

The second half was a seesaw affair with the lead changing hands almost as often as the ball. But momentum was ceded to the Swashbucklers late in the fourth quarter. The Raiders were driving for what would have been a go-ahead score when quarterback Antwon Young tossed an interception. A final opportunity by the Raiders to win was thwarted by a lost fumble.

With half of the Professional Indoor Football League season behind them, both teams will likely be thinking about the postseason since only the top four teams in the standings will make it to the playoffs. The Swashbucklers at 3-3 are currently tied with the Columbus Lions for third in the league, and Richmond is in second place at 4-2. The winner of Saturday's game will be in a second place tie in the league standings at the very least. While the top four teams earn a post season playoff spot, only the first and second place teams are guaranteed a game at home in post season play.
