May 2, 2012 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release
LAKE CHARLES LA. "" The Louisiana Swashbucklers, coming off a spectacular 61-28 victory over the Knoxville Nighthawks, travel to Richmond in what is certain to be a pivotal game with the Raiders. The contest will begin at 7 p.m. eastern standard time in the Richmond Coliseum. In the first game at the Smuggler's Den in Lake Charles on April 21st, Louisiana managed to get past Richmond 47-45. That game had the lead change between the teams several times before the thrilling finale. Louisiana is at an even 3-3 on the season while the Raiders are at 4-2. Locally, the game will be broadcast on Sports Radio 1310 AM KEZM with John Goodman calling the play-by-play. The game is also accessible on the website at www.kezmonline.com. Pregame will start at 5:50 p.m. central standard time with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
With one-half of the Professional Indoor Football League season over, teams will be putting more emphasis on the postseason since only the top four teams in the season standings will make it to the playoffs. The Swashbucklers are attempting to make it to the championship for a sixth consecutive trip. For their efforts against the Nighthawks, the Bucs had two players awarded weekly PIFL honors. Offensive Player of the Week went to fullback Kendrick Perry. He scored four touchdowns rushing and had 30 yards overall. Perry is also the league leader in rushing yards with 191 and 12 touchdowns.
Defensive Player of the Week is defensive back Damian Huren. He had against the Raiders seven tackles. Two tackles were for a loss. Huren also intercepted a pass upon which he ran for 51 yards. That turnover brought about Perry's third run into the end zone. He leads the league right now with 28.5 overall tackles. Once again Bucs quarterback Freddie Harrison is expected to be under center for the game. Last week against the Nighthawks had 11 completions out of 20 attempts for 216 yards. Harrison had three scores and one interception.
Another reason for the importance of this game is the Swashbucklers are currently tied with the Columbus Lions in the league standings at 3-3. Richmond will not only be looking for payback when the Bucs arrive there but also to hold on to second place in the PIFL standings. The Raiders will be retuning to action on the gridiron after a bye week.
