Richmond Kickers News Release
Richmond, VA - (Monday, May 5, 2008) - The Richmond Kickers Future of the Premier Development League (PDL) are pleased to announce that the 2008 roster will include 12 former youth players from the Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club and Super Y-League teams. Returning players Roger Bothe, Jordan Evans, Jimmy Pierce, Adam Roscioli, Evan Slusser, Ian Stowe and Jake Van Yahres will join newcomers Bobby Foglesong, Nicky Foglesong, Nicholas Orozco, Connor Quinn and Scott Robertson, all pending USL approval. The Future will open the 2008 season this Saturday, May 10th, hosting the Rhode Island Stingrays at 7:00 pm at Sports Backers Stadium.
Returning to anchor the back line, Bothe recently completed his second season at William & Mary where he started all 20 games played, registering one goal from a defensive position. A graduate of Thomas Dale High School, Bothe joins former high school teammate Jordan Evans who recently transferred to the University of Virginia. Evans led the Future in 2007 with six goals and one assist for 13 points in 13 appearances. As a freshman at the University of Richmond, he was named to the Atlantic 10 Tournament's All-Championship Team and started all 15 games played. While attending Thomas Dale, he captained the team his senior season and earned First Team All-State honors. His game-tying goal in the semifinals led Thomas Dale to the State Championship where he notched the game winner in the finals. In addition to taking the game MVP award in the state's All-Star game, Evans also garnered All-Richmond Metro First-Team honors and recorded 46 career goals.
A rising sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University, Slusser is touted as an athletic and versatile midfielder. Earning one start in six appearances with the Future last season, Slusser earned Central Region and District honors all four years at Price George High School. His final two seasons, he led Prince George in goals and assists, earning consecutive Team MVP honors. A member of the Richmond Kickers U14-U17 teams, he was also selected to play in the Super Y-League ODP National Camp and played in ODP International contests in Canada.
New to the Future's roster this season, Foglesong recently committed to Old Dominion University and started attending classes this spring upon graduating from South Stafford High School. Foglesong was a member of the Richmond Kickers Elite State Cup Championship squad in 2006 and currently plays on the Richmond Kickers U-18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy team.
