Washington Wild Things News Release
One night after scoring 16 runs, the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, could not manage any.
Richmond's Richard Barkley limited the Wild Things to four hits and went the full nine innings to give Richmond a 4-0 victory.
With the win, Richmond's record improves to 2-4 after taking two of three from the Wild Things. Washington's record falls to 3-3.
The score remained tied at zero through four innings. But in the top of the fifth, Richmond's Adam Patterson singled, and catcher Blair Bourque followed with a two-run homerun off of Washington's starter Jory Coughenour. One batter later, Josh Hollingsworth hit a solo homerun to left field, giving Richmond a 3-0 lead.
Washington could not mount a comeback. They put only two runners in scoring position all night, and had no extra base hits.
Bourque led Richmond offensively with a double, homerun, and two RBI. Hollingsworth had a single, homerun, and one RBI.
Coughenour was handed the loss after giving up four runs in six innings of work. Ryan Hartzell and B.J. Borsa allowed just one hit and struck out three in the final three innings.
