
Richards Named CHL Player of the Week

ALBUQUERQUE - The Central Hockey League announced today that New Mexico Scorpions center Chris Richards has been named the league's Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Oct. 20. The 27 year-old native of Cornwall, Ontario led the Scorpions and is tied for second in the CHL with five points (2g-3a) in two games.
Richards set up both third period goals in the Scorpions' 3-2 Opening Night win in overtime over Odessa on Friday. He added two goals and an assist in the Scorpions' 4-2 victory against Lubbock on Saturday at Tingley Coliseum. He has factored in five of the seven Scorpions goals in the first two games.
"I'm very happy that Chris has been recognized by the league for his efforts," said Scorpions Head Coach/Vice President of Hockey Operations Pat Dunn. "Chris was a key component for us not only this past weekend but last season as well. It's great to see him pick up where he left off."
Richards and the Scorpions hit the road for the first time this season on Friday, Oct. 25. as they visit the San Angelo Saints. Faceoff is 6:05 p.m. MDT, and the game can be heard on SportsRadio 610 The Sports Animal beginning at 5:50 p.m. with the Voice of the Scorpions Mike Sheehan. The Scorpions return home on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they host the Fort Worth Brahmas.
