Richards Named CHL Goalie Of The Week

SOUTHAVEN, Miss – The Central Hockey League today announced that Mark Richards has been named Goaltender of the Week. Richards led the ‘Kings to three straight wins during the final week of the CHL regular season to propel the RiverKings into the post-season. Memphis will open the 2003 CHL Playoffs at home this Saturday night against the Northwest Division champions, the Oklahoma City Blazers. Even though the ‘Kings are the lower seed they will host Game One of the best of five series due to a building conflict at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. Richards beat Oklahoma City on Tuesday making 31 saves on 34 shots and stopping all five Blazers in the extra session in a 4-3 shootout win. Friday, Richards turned aside all 21 New Mexico shots in a 1-0 victory for his second shutout of the season. Saturday, Richards stopped 15 of 16 shots in a 3-1 victory over Austin that clinched a playoff berth.

Richards went 3-0-0 and stopped 67 of 71 shots for a .933 save percentage during the week. This is the first time this year Richards has claimed the Goalie of the Week award.
