
Ricciardi Named Lowgators Team President

NORTH CHARLESTON, S..C., OCTOBER 29, 2002 â Long-time sports marketing professional Peter Ricciardi has been named team president for the North Charleston Lowgators, according to an announcement today by National Basketball Development League President Phil Evans. Ricciardi assumes the reins of the North Charleston team today.
"We are very confident in Pete's ability to come in and hit the ground running in North Charleston," Evans said. "His marketing experience in minor league sports and proven ability to drive ticket sales and develop corporate sponsorships is a great fit for our league. His ability and experience will lead to the Lowgators' continued growth."
Ricciardi comes to North Charleston after serving the last two years as executive vice-president of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League, where he was responsible for coordinating marketing, advertising, promotions, corporate partnerships and game production. Prior to his position with Bridgeport, he was executive vice-president and a minority partner of the Worcester IceCats of the AHL, where he was responsible for the launch and branding of the franchise.
"I am extremely excited to join the NBDL/NBA family," Ricciardi said. "We are committed to providing affordable entertainment that showcases tomorrow's NBA players in a fan-friendly interactive atmosphere.
"The entire Lowgators organization will be equally committed to becoming an even more integral and productive part of the Lowcountry community that I am anxious to call home," Ricciardi said. "I can't wait to get started."
Prior to making the move into sports marketing, Ricciardi served as senior manager for Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Princeton, Mass., where he received the Mary T. Holland Award for creative excellence in television advertising while managing a sizable marketing budget. He has also worked as a consultant, a fast food restaurant franchisee and a secondary education teacher and coach.
Ricciardi graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. He and his wife, Kathleen, who is also a member of the professional sports community, are the parents of a 4-year-old daughter, Summer. Ricciardi also has two older sons. Blake, 24, is the director of marketing for an SMG sports facility in Rye, N..H. and Benjamin, 22, is a senior at Towson University in Maryland.
