
Flight Add Four Players For Training Camp

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Oct. 29, 2002 â The Huntsville Flight announced today its fourth allocated player from the NBDL, Terrance "Doc" Martin, while head coach Ralph Lewis revealed the three player selections from the local tryouts held last weekend â Tyrone Mack, Demetric Shaw and David Webber. That brings the total number of players to eight that will report to training camp on Nov. 3
Martin, a 6-foot-3 guard from the University of Alabama played four seasons with the Crimson Tide. In 109 career games, Martin tallied averages of 4.9 points and 2.6 rebounds as he was mainly used as a utility player in a reserve role.
Martin played for the Flight during the 2001-02 season, averaging 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds a contest in 20 games. From the field, he connected on 24-of-64 shots for a 37.5 percentage, while tallying 76 percent of his free throws (19-of-25). He finished the season with the Columbus Riverdragons but did not play due to injury.
Mack, a 6-foot-6 forward, played two seasons at Northeastern (1995-97) where he tallied 869 points in two seasons for a 17.0 points per game average. After his collegiate experience, Mack has played professionally four years including a stint in 2000-01 for the Des Moines Dragons of the International Basketball Association. In 40 games, he averaged 11.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest.
During his prep days, Mack led the New York City public school league with his average of over 34 points per game during 1992-93.
As for Shaw, a 6-foot-2 guard who was a member of Kent State's Elite Eight team last season, earned the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second time. His three-year career statistics included 8.4 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per tilt.
Despite his size, Shaw finished his career with 577 rebounds which ranks eighth on the KSU career charts, while also standing in 10th place in career steals with 135.
Webber, a 6-foot-2 guard, played four years at Central Michigan, tallying 17.7 points and 2.5 boards per game last season. He averaged in double digits in three of the four years for the Chippewas, including his season-best 19.2 scoring average his sophomore campaign (1999-2000).
The younger brother of NBA standout Chris Webber, he was a member of the Sacramento Kings preseason camp before being released last week.
The team will increase its training camp numbers to 22 when they hold its draft Thursday from 4-8 p.m. The Flight is holding a Draft Party at Humphrey's Bar and Grille (109 Washington NE) and the team will have 14 selections that evening. The general public is invited to the event as those in attendance will have a chance to win Flight opening night tickets, merchandise and food certificates from Humphrey's, Pauli's Chophouse and Cotton Row.
