RHP Dan Straily named NWL Pitcher of the Week
August 31, 2009 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - The Vancouver Canadians are proud to announce that RHP Dan Straily has been named Northwest League Pitcher of the Week after two stellar outings in the state of Oregon including the West Division Champion Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.
Straily, 21, picked up his first victory of the week in Salem-Keizer (August 23) going six innings, scattering six hits while striking out five to help the Canadians top the Volcanoes 7-2.
Five nights later (August 28), Straily put together one of the most memorable pitching performances of the 2009 season as the Marshall University graduate pitched six scoreless innings against the team he grew up watching as a child as the Canadians defeated the Eugene Emeralds 1-0 with Straily striking out ten in the victory.
Straily becomes the second Vancouver Canadians player to get the nod from the Northwest League Head Office. RHP Chad Lee was named NWL Pitcher of the Week (June 29- July 5) after going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00 through 12 innings.
With only seven games remaining in the 2009 Vancouver Canadians schedule, Dan Straily will get one final start in Everett on Wednesday, September 2nd at 7:05pm
