Rochester Rhinos News Release
Rochester, NY - The Rhinos are pleased to announce the signing of two defenders, Grant Van De Casteele and Julian Ringhof. Grant Van De Casteele comes to the Rhinos after spending a year in the MLS with the Colorado Rapids. Ringhof is joining the Rhinos after an outstanding four years with San Diego State University and the German National Youth Team.
Grant Van De Casteele is a defender who was born and raised in Plano, Texas. Van De Casteele was an iron man at Notre Dame where he started all 84 of his college appearances. In his final year at Notre Dame, Grant was named an All-American and took home All-ACC honors. He helped anchor a defense that took home the Big East Championship in 2012 and was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Performer as well as being named to the all-tournament team for his effort in helping Notre Dame win the league title. Grant was named to the all-academic team all four years of college and was selected in the first round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids.
"Grant is a smart player that makes really good decisions playing out of the back. He does a good job at positioning himself well and will also help to organize players around him," Lilley said about Grant.
Julian Ringhof is a 25 year-old German defender who recently graduated from the University of San Diego. During his time at USD, Ringhof started in 59 of the 60 matches and was named to the West Coast Conference 1st team in 2013 and 2014. He was also named the WCC 2014 Defender of the Year, and was an Academic All-American in 2014. Julian played for the pre-stage of the German National Team between the ages of 10 and 18 and also played club soccer for FC Denzlingen.
"Ringhof is a defender that brings a high-level of maturity coming straight out of college. He is very strong in the tackle and will bring a physical presence. He is very solid with his distribution out of the back and is good in the air defensively as well as on restarts," Lilley stated about Ringhof.
