
Rhinos Host Reading United AC in U.S. Open Cup

The Rochester Rhinos will host Reading United AC of the USL PDL in the Third Round of the 101st Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 27th 2014 at 7:35PM. The winner of the cup tie will advance to the Fourth Round where they will meet D.C. United of Major League Soccer.
"Reading United is a talented PDL team loaded with college stars." Rhinos head coach Bob Lilley said. "I had the opportunity to see them play Baltimore Bohemians on Saturday night in a 3:0 victory, and they looked good. Darius Madison is a legitimate star in the making and they have several other players that caught my eye. It's going to be a good game on Tuesday night."
The Rhinos advanced to the Third Round with a 2:1 overtime victory against Western Mass Pioneers (PDL) on Wednesday, May 14th at Sahlen's Stadium. Levi Houapeu and Onua Thomas Obasi scored the goals for Rochester in the second half of added extra time, and substitute JC Banks added an assist. The assist moved Banks into a tie for seventh place on the list for career assists in the U.S. Open Cup. The victory moved the Rhinos all-time record against teams from a lower division to 15 - 0 - 1 in the U.S. Open Cup. Rochester enters the match having recently lost their seven match unbeaten streak 1:0 to Sacramento Republic FC on Friday, May 23rd, but Lilley held midfielder Jonny Mendoza, attacking midfielder Alex Dixon, and striker Colin Rolfe out of the starting line-up in preparation for the U.S. Open Cup match.
Reading United AC advanced to the Third Round with a 5:2 victory over Greater Binghamton FC (NPSL) on Wednesday, May 14th. Darius Madison scored a goal and added three assists in the victory. The University of Virginia standout has already scored four goals in his first two PDL league matches of the season. University of Pittsburgh midfielder Graham Smith and Iona College star Ignacio Magnato lead the team in league assists with two each. Syracuse University goalkeeper Alex Bono has a 2 - 0 - 0 record in PDL play with a 0.500 goals-against average and one clean sheet. Bono had made 11 saves on 12 shots faced this season.
Tickets for the match will be $5 with $2 parking in the Broad Street lot and $2 drafts throughout the match.
