Rhett Wiseman Drafted by Chicago Cubs

Brockton, Mass. - Brockton Rox outfielder Rhett Wiseman (Mansfield, MA) was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 25th round (764th overall) of the 2012 MLB Draft on Wednesday, becoming the first Brockton Rox player to be selected since the club's move to the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL).

The former BB&N star was named the 2011-2012 Gatorade Massachusetts Baseball Player of the Year just one week ago, while also earning Independent School League (ISL) Most Valuable Player honors as well. The 17-year old owned a .444 batting average with eight home runs, 24 RBI and 26 runs scored through 21 games with the Knights. Wiseman, a First Team Rawlings/Perfect Game All-American and a four-time First Team All-League honoree, led the Knights to a 16-5 record on the year and helped BB&N to its 16th consecutive winning season.

Despite being just the second player from the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) taken in the 2012 MLB Draft, Wiseman is still slated to play for the Rox this summer. It is expected that he will attend Vanderbilt University in the fall instead of joining the Cubs organization, although he has until July 13th to decide whether or not he will sign with Chicago. Wiseman committed to the Division I Commodores of the Southeastern Conference when he was just 15.

Wiseman and the Rox open the 2012 season on Friday, June 8th at home against the Martha's Vineyard Sharks at 7:05 p.m.
