RGV Vipers Advance to Western Conference Semifinals

Hidalgo, Texas - The NBA G League Rio Grande Valley Vipers, proud affiliate of the Houston Rockets, defeated the Texas Legends by a score of 107-100 in the Western Conference quarterfinals of the NBA G League Playoffs.

Monte Morris led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in scoring with 19 points. Legends' Jameel Warney led both teams in scoring with 28 points. Warney also had 14 rebounds in the night to collect a double-double.

The defense for Rio Grande Valley controlled the game early on. In the first quarter, RGV held Texas to just 15 points. The Legends finished the first quarter shooting 5-for-24. The Vipers were able to start distancing themselves from the Legends, finishing the first quarter with a 29-15 lead.

In the second quarter, the Vipers were able to extend their lead to 21 points. RGV's Cleanthony Early added a spark from off the bench scoring nine points in the second quarter. The Vipers were able to make the most out of every trip to the foul line in the first half. RGV scored all seven free throw attempts.

Momentum flipped over to the Legends' side in the third quarter. After being held to just 37 points in the first half, the Legends scored 35 points in the third quarter. Jameel Warney scored 12 points for Texas in the third. At one point, the Texas Legends trailed the Vipers by a one-point margin.

The Vipers entered the final quarter of play with a 76-72 lead. Monte Morris's 10 points in the final quarter of play helped the Vipers close out the win at home.

Rio Grande Valley Vipers will face the Austin Spurs on Monday, April 2 in Austin. With tip-off set at 6p.m., the game will be broadcasted on Twitch.
