EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (8-6-4; 28 pts.) fall 2-5 to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (8-6-4; 28 pts.) on Saturday night at H-E-B Park.
Juan Carlos Azocar opened the scoreboard for RGV FC in the 28th minute after Christian Sorto sent a through ball inside the box. Azocar was able to send the ball to the bottom right corner past a diving Sean Melvin, 1-0. Azocar's goal marked his sixth goal of the season.
Colorado equalized in the 37th minute after a Colin Miller deflection inside the box. Hadji Barry managed to get the rebounded ball and finished to the back of the net, 1-1.
The visiting team took the lead in the 57th minute after DeShane Beckford sent a pass to Thomas Amang who finished the play, 1-2. Two minutes later, Vicente Sanchez equalized after a buildup play with Rodrigo Lopez who sent a long pass to the inside of the box, allowing Sorto to head the ball to Sanchez. Sanchez was able to finish at the top of the goal 2-2. Sorto's assist marked the second tonight, third in the season.
In the 69th minute, Michee Ngalina earned the lead for Colorado following a free kick 2-3. Four minutes later, Hadji Barry scored from outside the box to the top right corner of the net 2-4. The goal marked his 18th of the season. Colorado finished the night with a fifth goal by Darren Yapi who sent a shot to the bottom right corner, 2-5.
In the 12th minute Erik Pimentel was able to send a dangerous header from a difficult angle following a free kick but Melvin managed to send out to corner. In the 17th minute Wan Kuzain conceded a foul inside the box giving Colorado a penalty kick. Beckford took the penalty kick but Miller comes out big to make the save at the bottom right corner.
In the 21st minute Rodrigo Lopez took a set piece shot but Melvin deflects out to a corner. Three minutes later, Lopez takes a long shot from outside the box but went over the crossbar.
Elvis Amoh made a return to the pitch and had two back-to-back opportunities in the 31st minute. The first attempt was blocked by the right post then followed with a Melvin block out of play.
In the 72nd minute Dantouma Toure tested Miller once again as he sent a left footed shot from the left side of the box, but Miller managed to block the attempt. Before the final whistle, Sanchez had another dangerous opportunity sent a header hitting the top post.
The home team finished with 19 total shots, seven on goal while Colorado totaled 15 shots, eight on target.
Miller totaled three saves tonight and Pimentel totaled five interceptions and one tackle and block. Sanchez totaled four shots, two on target from off the bench. Sorto totaled five key passes with three total shots.
