Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders kicked off their final series before the All-Star break tonight with an 8-2 loss to the Terre Haute Rex at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute, IN. Terre Haute jumped in front in the very first inning when a two out walk came around to score. In the third inning, Terre Haute would add another run, again with two outs, to make it 2-0. The Rex would then make it 4-0 with two more runs in the fifth, and to that point, all their runs had come with two outs. C Matt Stevens was originally given an infield single in his at-bat in the second, but after the sixth inning it was announced that the hit was taken away and changed to an error, meaning Terre Haute starter Nick Cunningham had a no hitter going through six instead of a one hitter. 2B David Kerian quickly broke up the no hitter in the seventh, as he led off by hitting triple to deep center. LF Mike Fitzgerald doubled one batter later to score Kerian, and after moving to third on a wild pitch, Fitzgerald scored on an RBI groundout by Stevens to cut the Rex lead to 4-2. The margin wouldn't last long though as the Rex scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, chasing Sliders' starter Zach Wendorf in the process. The Rex added another insurance run in the eighth inning, and the Rex bullpen would finish the Sliders off from there, sealing the win for Terre Haute. The Rex now lead the season series against the Sliders 3-2. Game two of this three game series is set for 5:30 ET tomorrow, and the game will be broadcast on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
