Ty Simpson to Start Saturday vs. Gems
July 7, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release
HUNTINGBURG, Ind. - Ty Simpson, a native of Gentryville, Ind., will make his sixth start of the year Saturday, July 7, at 7:15 p.m. at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Ind. He has been one of the Dubois County Bombers' most consistent pitchers, and that means a lot on a 22-11 club.
Simpson, who just finished his freshman year at Vincennes University, has appeared in ieght games thus far, five as a starter. In those five starts, he is 2-1 and has pitched at least six innings in all but one. His most recent outing, June 29 vs. Danville, saw Ty throw seven innings and allow only two earned runs. In fact, Simpson has only surrendered eight earned runs all season, good for a 2.16 ERA - fourth in the Prospect League
Ty has also proved to be a valuable member of the bullpen. In Dubois County's second game, he threw two hitless innings to close out the Springfield Sliders in a 3-0 win. Simpson then threw two more hitless/scoreless innings in a 13-5 win over Danville. He also got the save in 9-5 win over the Gems on June 20, a game in which he entered with the bases loaded and one out; he retired the next two batters and stranded all three runners.
In all, the Bombers have won six of the eight games in which Simpson has appeared.
The Bombers hope Simpson continues this success Saturday against the Gems. So far, there's little reason to doubt he will.
