Dubois County Bombers News Release
HUNTINGBURG, Ind. - The Dubois County Bombers find themselves in an unfamiliar place - not leading the Western Division after their first three-game losing streak of the season. They lost to the Quincy Gems 13-6 Saturday night at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Ind.
Quincy scored runs on all but three innings and ounded out 18 hits.
Dalton Rouleau, who played shortstop for Dubois County and went hitless in three at bats while walking twice, said the Gems just outplayed the Bombers.
"They outhit us," Dalton Rouleau said. "We didn't have too many errors. They had a lot of hits and a lot of runs."
Charlie Kapala (5-0) earned the win, battling control issues - he had five walks - to pitch five innings of four-run ball. Dylan Badura and Bronson Smith each pitched two innings in relief, Badura allowing no runs and Smith surrendering two.
Ty Simpson, now 2-2, took the loss for the Bombers, lasting only four and two-thirds innings and giving up five runs.
Spencer Sapp relieved Simpson and allowed eight runs, only four of which were earned, as he pitched the rest of the game for Dubois County.
Nick Moore and Nick Day each drove in three runs for the Gems.
Jeff Zahn was the offensive bright spot for the Bombers, recording two hits in five at bats while driving in two runs and scoring one.
Rouleau said it was important not to dwell on this loss or the losing streak.
"We have to let the game come to us," Rouleau said. "We can't think about it too much. We just have to put this one behind us and get after it tomorrow."
The Bombers have a chance to do just that as they play Quincy again at 6:15 p.m. Sunday at League Stadium.
