Revs Wrap 2004 SuperDraft with Four Selections

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The New England Revolution acquired four players today in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft: Clint Dempsey, Jeremiah White, Felix Brillant and Andy Dorman. Dempsey, a Nike Project-40 player out of Furman University and recent member of the U.S. U-20 National Team, was the 8th overall selection (1st round). With the 23rd overall pick (3rd round), the Revolution selected White, a 2003 All-America from Wake Forest University. In the 6th round, the Revolution selected Brillant from Franklin Pierce College, and Dorman out of Boston University.

A three-year star at Furman, Dempsey finished in the top four on his squad in scoring in each of his three seasons with the Paladins, finishing with 17 goals and 19 assists for 53 points in 62 games. During his time at Furman, Dempsey helped lead his team to a pair of Southern Conference titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a berth in the third round in 2002 and a top 10 National ranking. He was a second team NSCAA All-America selection in 2002.

Dempsey was named to the United States Under-20 National Team for the FIFA World Youth Championships where he made one appearance, replacing Freddy Adu for the final 20 minutes against Korea to help the U.S. win its group and advance to the quarterfinals.

Dempsey, a Nike Project-40 player, can play attacking midfield, wide midfield, and forward as well as in the defense. He is forgoing his senior year at Furman to play professionally. Created in 1997, Nike Project-40 is a joint venture between MLS and U.S. Soccer aimed at providing America's top young soccer players with the opportunity to play and train in a professional environment on a daily basis. Players signed to Nike Project-40 contract receive an educational stipend in addition to their salary and a developmental spot on the roster of their MLS club.

Before the draft began this morning, the Revolution traded their natural second round pick (18) for the Chicago Fire's natural first round pick (9). Once on the clock in the first round, New England then traded the 9th selection back to Chicago for the player allocation spot attributable to Peter Nowak's retirement.

With the 23rd overall selection in the third round of the SuperDraft (from Los Angeles), the Revolution selected forward/midfielder Jeremiah White out of Wake Forest University. In 2003, his senior year, White was the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year for the Demon Deacons and was also an NSCAA All-America second team selection. He was also a third team All-America choice in 2001 and was All-ACC a total of three times in his college career. White comes from Lansdown, PA and attended The Haverford School. He played his club soccer for FC Delco in the Philadelphia area.

With the 56th overall selection, the Revs took Felix Brillant, a forward out of Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire. Brillant comes from Montreal, Quebec and is a product of the Canadian youth national team system. He made seven appearances for Canada's U-17 team and also played two years in the youth system the French professional club Cannes. He was a NSCAA Division II All-America in the 2000 season at Franklin Pierce and capped a stellar career for the Ravens by earning NSCAA All-Region First Team honors in 2003.

With the 58th pick in the SuperDraft, the Revolution took midfielder Andy Dorman from Boston University and Flintshire, Wales. An America East All-Conference First Team pick three straight seasons from 2001-2003, Dorman also played for the Wales U-18 National Team. He finished his college career as the Terriers' all-time leader in assists with 37.
