Revs Settle in at Home But Drop Opener to FerryHawks

(York, Pa.): The York Revolution opened a season long-tying 12-game homestand on Friday night but dropped the opener, 9-5 to the Staten Island FerryHawks at PeoplesBank Park. It begins a stretch on which the Revs will play 43 of the final 58 games of the season at home.

With the game scoreless into the fourth, Mariel Bautista connected on a two-out solo homer to left giving Staten Island the game's first run.

York answered in the bottom of the fourth as Josue Herrera slammed a line drive two-run homer to right, his sixth of the year, lifting the Revs on top by a 2-1 margin.

Staten Island did more two-out damage in the sixth. Back-to-back walks to Bautista and Javier Betancourt loaded the bases and extended the inning, chasing Revs starter Jorge Martinez who struck out seven in 5.2 innings. Andres Noriega greeted reliever Brett de Geus with a two-run single up the middle to give the FerryHawks the lead. Alfredo Reyes added an infield single plating one more as Staten Island's rally resulted in a 4-2 advantage.

York responded in the bottom half of the inning. Connor Lien greeted reliever Eddy Reynoso with a double down the left field line to extend the inning with two outs. With runners at second and third, Betancourt mishandled an infield pop up allowing two runs to score, tying the game at 4-4.

Staten Island went ahead for good with a four-run seventh. Rusney Castillo smacked a two-run single down the third base line against a drawn-in infield to break the tie, and two more scored on an error by Lien in center field on a line drive that sliced past the tip of his glove. A fielder's choice produced one more run in the eighth as the FerryHawks lead grew to 9-4.

York made noise in the bottom of the eighth when Troy Stokes Jr. doubled off the Arch Nemesis in left and scored as Jack Kenley laced a double down the right field line, cutting it to 9-5. The Revs loaded the bases with one out, bringing the tying run to the plate but reliever Joe Kuzia recorded the final two outs and former Revs righty Victor Capellan handled a perfect ninth to close it out for the FerryHawks.

Notes: Elmer Reyes doubled twice, increasing his league-leading total to 27 for the season. The Revs pounded five doubles as a team and lead the league with 157 on the year. Stokes Jr. stole his 27th base, third-most in the league, swiping third base in the bottom of the second inning; his next steal will match Scott Grimes (2010) for 10th most on the Revs single-season list. The seven strikeouts for Martinez increase his league-leading total to 97 on the year. Tuck Tucker (0-1) suffered the loss, charged with four runs (two earned) in the seventh; it ended his streak of six consecutive scoreless outings to begin his pro career. Carlos Ventura fired a scoreless ninth out of the Revs bullpen, his sixth consecutive scoreless appearance to begin his Revs career. York lefty Austin Nicely matches up with Staten Island southpaw Anthony Rodriguez on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on Bike Night presented by Eisenhauer's Harley-Davidson.
